"Tragic Blast at Christian Convention Center in Kochi: 36 Injured, One Fatality Reported"
In Kochi, a tragic incident occurred at a convention center of a Christian religious group in Kalamassery, resulting in 36 people sustaining injuries and one woman losing her life, as reported by Ernakulam District Collector, N S K Umesh.
Among the injured, 10 individuals were admitted to the burns unit at Kalamassery Medical College. Two of these patients, having over 50% burns, were transferred to another hospital. Eight people were admitted to the general ward of the medical college, while the remaining 18 were under observation in various other hospitals.
The identity of the deceased woman has not yet been disclosed, adding to the distress of the situation. The series of blasts occurred during a prayer meeting of Jehovah's Witnesses at Kalamassery, causing an unexpected and devastating outcome, as conveyed by CI Vin Das of Kalamassery.
Authorities have mobilized the National Security Guard (NSG) to collect and examine the materials involved in the explosion. An eight-member NSG bomb disposal unit from Delhi is heading to Kerala for this purpose. Their arrival at the blast site is anticipated by this evening for the investigation.
This unfortunate incident was described as grievous by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in an official statement, expressing heartfelt condolences for those who lost their lives. He confirmed that the top officials and the District Collector were present at the scene and taking the matter very seriously. The Chief Minister stressed the need for a thorough investigation to gather more details about the incident. As of now, one fatality has been confirmed, and the injured have been admitted to hospitals for treatment.
