The movie features Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel, and Utkarsh Sharma reprising their roles from the previous installment. Set during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, the film follows Tara Singh as he returns to Pakistan to rescue his imprisoned son, Charanjeet "Jeete" Singh. Released on August 11, 2023, "Gadar 2" achieved commercial success, grossing over ₹691.08 crore (US$87 million) worldwide against a production budget of ₹60 crore (US$7.5 million). It became the third highest-grossing Indian film of 2023 and the seventh highest-grossing Hindi film of all time. The plot unfolds in two timelines. In 1954, Hamid Iqbal, an Army general of Pakistan, seeks revenge on Tara Singh for eliminating his 40 soldiers during Tara's escape from Pakistan with his wife Sakeena and son Jeete. Iqbal has Sakeena's father, Ashraf Ali, executed for aiding Tara's escape to India. Jumping to 1971, Tara is now a goods supplier to the Indian Army cantonment and lives with Sakeena and Jeete. Jeete goes to Chandigarh for college studies. Tara is contacted by Lt. Colonel Devendra Rawat to supply Indian soldiers with weapons during the Third India–Pakistan War. While at the border, Tara is spotted by Iqbal, leading to an explosion and the capture of many Indian soldiers. Jeete returns home to find Sakeena distraught. Upon learning of Tara's disappearance, Jeete decides to go to Pakistan to rescue his father. In Pakistan, Jeete secures a job at Kurban Khan's hotel, which supplies food to the prison where Indian soldiers are held. He meets Muskaan, Kurban's daughter, who supports him upon learning his mission. Jeete infiltrates the prison but gets captured and discovers Tara was never captured. Tara, on the other hand, reappears in Punjab, revealing that he fell into a stream and was rescued by a Bakarwal tribe but went into a coma. When Tara learns of Jeete's situation, he heads to Pakistan to extract him from prison. In Pakistan, Tara reunites with Jeete after defeating Iqbal. They are pursued by Iqbal's men and eventually reunite with Sakeena. Following combats and chases, they plan to leave Pakistan but are intercepted by Muskaan and Kurban Khan's family, who are also trying to escape to Balochistan. Kurban Khan proposes that Tara accepts Muskaan as Jeete's bride, and both Tara and Jeete agree happily. However, they are ambushed by Iqbal, resulting in the death of Muskaan's brother, Farid. The next day, Tara faces Iqbal and his army alone, eventually escaping with everyone in a battle tank. They reach the Indian border, where Iqbal attempts to kill Tara but is shot by Indian soldiers. Jeete is approved to enlist in the army, and Tara, Jeete, and Muskaan reunite with Sakeena.
