Prime Minister Narendra Modi Meets Prominent Asian Team Participants

Prime Minister Narendra Modi commended Indian athletes who participated in the Asian Games 2022, held at Major Dhyan Chand Stadium in New Delhi. India's remarkable achievement of winning 107 medals, including 28 gold medals, marked the nation's best-ever performance in the continental multi-sport event.

During his address, Prime Minister Modi welcomed and congratulated the athletes on behalf of the nation, highlighting the historic connection of the stadium to the inaugural edition of the Asian Games in 1951. He praised the athletes' determination, emphasizing the immense pride and celebration felt across the country.

The Prime Minister acknowledged the crucial roles played by coaches, trainers, physiotherapists, and officials, while also expressing gratitude to the parents of the athletes for their support and sacrifices.

He celebrated India's significant accomplishments in various sports disciplines, such as shooting, archery, squash, rowing, female boxing, and cricket, among others, and noted the end of long medal droughts in specific events.

Prime Minister Modi emphasized the positive impact on India's youth and the nation's march towards the Olympics due to the athletes' achievements. He commended the contributions of female athletes and highlighted their achievements in sports like cricket, boxing, and athletics.

He reiterated India's commitment to providing top-notch training facilities, international exposure for athletes, transparent selection processes, and opportunities for rural talent. The Prime Minister mentioned the substantial increase in the sports budget and the success of initiatives like TOPS and Khelo India.

Prime Minister Modi expressed joy at the younger generation's presence among the medal winners, underscoring the need to connect with more youth and raise awareness about the dangers of drugs. He encouraged athletes to support the fight against drug abuse in India.

The Prime Minister acknowledged the athletes as the "Greatest of All Time" (GOAT) and encouraged them to prepare diligently for the upcoming Paris Olympics. He extended his best wishes to Para Asian Games participants and urged those who didn't succeed this time to learn from their mistakes and persevere.

The program, attended by Union Minister for Youth and Sports Affairs Anurag Singh Thakur, aimed to recognize the outstanding achievements of Indian athletes at the Asian Games 2022 and inspire them for future competitions. It marked India's best performance in terms of total medals won at the Asian Games.
